THE LOST GAELIC LANGUAGE Sept 25th, 2011

This is sad, very sad but it has to be finally said,
It’s about a dead language and those who deny that it’s dead,
In my youth, I spoke the Gaelic fluently with the brothers,
With the Irish Christian Brothers in school but with no others.
Because those who could speak it lived on Islands off the west coast,
In the “Gaeltacht” where they lived like isolated holy ghosts,
We can’t revive a dead language, which the Irish certainly tried,
Wrapped up tightly speaking English with Celtic history and pride.
So learn French, German or Spanish before you finally leave home,
Irish emigrant silently headed for Shannon aerodrome,
I know, I know, that pride and history has a lot to do with this,
But we should be practical with as many languages as the Swiss.
