WE HAVE TO CALM DOWN

WE HAVE TO CALM DOWN
BY
JAMES BREDIN

Ottawa politicians are very reluctant to change,
The system is solid, the pay is good so why rearrange,
And the people don’t care because less than half of them vote,
And refugees are trying hard to get here by plane or by boat.

A hundred thousand abortions a year doesn't faze us a bit,
Unborn slaughtered dead baby holocaust without a permit,
While we live in the illusion of democracy and rights,
Unfortunately those unborn babies don’t get their last rites.

Abortion clinics on every street where babies are killed,
And now they want injection sites too where the health system can be billed,
If we had binding referendums we could change things around,
But these too have been pompously denied and we have to calm down.

The Supreme Court has denied us the right to die and they’re pleased,
They denied Sue Rodriguez with painful Lou Gehrig’s disease,
If we the people had binding referendums, we could decide,
To get euthanasia to help when and if we wanted to die.

THE BRIDLE PATH JUNE 9TH, 2012

The Bridle Path   JUNE 9TH, 2012
by

The Bridle Path is a fine posh place of big mansion houses,
Where rich folk from Switzerland sometimes stash their spouses.
The lawns are low and weeds don’t grow and the driveways long and curved,
And license plates from New York State can sometimes be observed.

But folk are few, don’t give reviews and the place is so sedate,
But lenses watch the garden gates and hedges hide the real estate,
But if you’re blessed to be a guest you’ll see the tennis courts,
And the girls in white, all sunshine bright, running at their sports.

It was in this fine place that I first perceived Pontius de la Clair,
A gardener and a servant man and a little in despair,
As he stood on a ladder, he seemed quite sadder and clipped the cedar hedge,
And told me about Switzerland and their house on a mountain ledge.

"I should have an electric clippers and a fancy sit-down mower.
"And a long-barreled leaf blower and a sheltered snow thrower.
"We travel the world wherever we like, to Zurich or Madrid,
"I’ve driven the Rolls with all that chrome to his every buyout bid.

I didn’t tell Pontius then, because it took me time to see,
And I didn’t want to pain his pride -- we were both bourgeoisie,
He was a servant and a spectacle, part of the deluxe display
He was a lackey just like me, something serious to convey.

IT'S NOT THE BUDGET JUNE 8TH, 2012

It’s not the budget   June 8th, 2012
BY

Our elected officials went to Ottawa and disappeared,
Into subcommittee rooms, behind closed doors, it is feared,
While unelected appointees made decisions that count,
Death with dignity was forbidden like a sermon on the mount.

That’s what they said to Sue Rodriguez when she wanted to die,
With painful Lou Gehrig’s disease; she just wanted to say, “Bye!”
Life and death issues are whispered about somewhere over there,
Binding referendums banned by appointees almost everywhere.

We need Constitutional changes, that are banned and not allowed,
And we behave like a very disciplined obedient crowd,
Without binding referendums or death with dignity,
While high appointees up there, think they behave brilliantly.

A GROUP OF OLD MEN JUNE 5TH, 2012

A GROUP OF OLD MEN     June 5th 2012
BY

There’s something going on at the Cedarbrae Center.
I want to join in and not be a dissenter.
There’s a group of old men who are really excited,
I’m the same age; I’m concerned, but I’m never invited.
They speak a strange language from far far away,
Smoking with gestures excited as they push to convey.

Are they Greeks, Italians, Turks, Jews or Serbs,
Discussing with twisted vowels and tarnished verbs?
A plot, a plan, a revolution, a war or a riot?
Whatever it is; it’s not being done on the quiet.
What lives did they live what things did they see?
To cause such excitement to the highest degree?

There’s one who stands smart and struts his stuff,
Waves his hands in gestures like he’s had enough.
There’s a tall one who leans to catch every word,
And a small one straight from theater of the absurd.
There’s one who seems to whisper, not to be heard,
And another who looks like a proper little nerd.

What could it be, they’re so excited about?
They’ve been plotting for years, day in and day out.
There’s nothing that exciting happens around here.
No war no riots no revolution and nothing to fear.
I think I’ll sit down and watch from a distance,
In case something happens and they need my assistance.

DEATH JUNE 4TH, 2012

free counters

BY

There is only one thing for sure about life and that is death,
Though we try to avoid the issue and it hasn’t arrived yet,
So we should arrange to die with dignity before it arrives,
Forget all that pompous religious stuff because no one survives.

They wrote the rules so that euthanasia is against the law,
They refused Sue Rodriguez, which was another tragic flaw,
Maybe they think that they themselves will never never die,
Therefore no need for death with dignity and I don’t know why.

Why do they deny us control as we approach our death?
Because one way or another we will take our last breath,
Our politicians are busy in committees discussing this and that,
Why can’t they discuss death with dignity and then go to bat?

THE PANTOMIME JUNE 3RD, 2012

THE PANTOMIME    JUNE 3RD, 2012
BY

Appointees from the secret list don’t need to be elected,
To the Supreme Court or the Senate because they’re connected,
As we watch this pantomime and nobody thinks it’s strange,
And no one even bothers to ask; how was it all arranged?

The same thing for the Governor General, who rules the roost,
And no changes to the system allowed or can be produced,
The complicated system instructions must be written down,
In a Charter or Constitution and no one is allowed to frown.

One of the reasons why binding referendums are banned,
Or why proportional representation is kept out of hand,
While aristocrat hierarchy close-knit Ottawa rules,
Democracy is even sometimes discussed for us fools.

NOW IS THE TIME TO CHANGE JUN 2ND, 2012

NOW IS THE TIME TO CHANGE   JUN 2ND, 2012
BY

Why can’t Canadians have binding referendums this year?
Is it something the Ottawa aristocrats or politicians fear?
Or are they too busy at meetings or travelling here and there?
Should I mind my own business and not be bothered by this affair?

A majority government should be able to pull things off,
While Liberal media moguls just sit around and scoff,
And binding referendums to show we can play hardball.

Some politicians and Supreme Court appointees don’t want
change,
They’ve got it made where they are and don’t want anything rearranged,
But times change, governments change and this government should plan,
And show the world that Canadians are willing to change and can.
