What should we do to get our establishment to pay attention?

The elected, the appointed -- those without much comprehension,

We need death-with-dignity like they have in Oregon and Quebec,

Could we buy our guys, if we sent them a big fat Canadian cheque?

Don't they know that medically assisted death might help us along?

Make us feel more Canadian and that we really belong,

Why are they so isolated, hidden somewhere in Ottawa up there?

Maybe they think that they will never die so they just don't care.

They treat this issue as if it is a mortal sin in a loony bin,

So they avoid it completely and hope it will not come back again,

And no doubt the media moguls got the message on this matter,

So you seldom if ever heard or read about this awful chapter.

The Supreme Court ruling about aboriginal land could change a lot,

Could tie the pipeline negotiations in a legal knot,

And what could this mean to Canadians as a whole?

We don't have binding referendums so we are not on a roll.

As we look on and listen to these important national events,

And wonder, what could these events mean in dollars and cents?

Is this economically good and who has the answer to these questions?

Do we have a politician with other suggestions?

Who might have a solution in this ongoing national matter?

As high priced negotiators continue to natter,

Surely someone has the ability to figure it out,

There has to be an answer and another national route.

Eventually we will get medically assisted death,

Unfortunately it will take a while, so don’t hold your breath,

The pompous powerful politically correct want their say,

The religious too from high on a pulpit, want it their way.

Dying in pain has been part of life forever and ever,

You are just trying to avoid the pain by being quite clever,

It’s illegal according to the Sue Rodriguez decision,

You have to obey the rules with great legal precision.

Just because Quebec and five US states have it; doesn’t mean a thing,

Our Charter has not been changed so we may be flying on one wing,

Eventually we’ll get medically assisted death,

While politicians, pompous priests and TV pests hold their breath.

Memories trapped in Halifax in nineteen fifty eight,
RCN matlo living on a ship docked inside the dockyard gate,
Waiting for tot time and up-spirits at eleven forty five,
Had to mix his rum and drink it right there in order to thrive.


Of course you can't remember that; you weren't even there,
On Barrington Street or Gottingen Street, navy uniform debonair,
Add HMCS Stadacona where we marched on the parade square,
Marching up and down -- not public -- an RCN  affair.


In 1972, I hear the RCN completely stopped that grog,
For those slightly alcoholic, not even a hair of the dog,
So much for those great navy traditions and their effect,
Changes impounded by the righteous politically correct.

Is it possible that Canadian democracy could rule?

And medically assisted death become provincial and cool?

It’s already in Quebec despite the Supreme Court view,

But other provincial politicians don’t know what to do.

It’s a unique Canadian federal-provincial affair,

With Ottawa officials scratching their heads as if they care,

We need someone to come out of the woods and put it right,

Finally give us death-with-dignity and turn on the lights.

Half the countries in Europe, five US states and Quebec have it now,

But some pompous people and religions want to cause a row,

They seem to think that god is on their side so therefore they are right,

They are making it a religious issue and they want to have a fight.

We don’t have an option of when, where or how we will die,

The Supreme Court forbade Sue Rodriguez but did they say why?

Almost all religions forbid it so we may have to die in pain,

Then it gets worse because we can’t even complain.

So if you are old and sick and dying; there’s not much you can do,

It’s the funeral home for you and you are in a long cue,

This issue may not concern you now but eventually it will,

How do we get the government to enact a death-with-dignity bill?

Half the countries in Europe, five US states and Quebec have it now,

In Ontario; it should only be a matter of when, where and how?

Unfortunately the religious types, are completely opposed,

They think that god is on their side so their ideas should be imposed.

APPOINTED ALMOST FOR LIFE … JUNE 18TH, 2014

Up to a few years ago, we didn’t know what senators did,

We don’t know now other than they were appointed and hid,

We had three Senate scandals and three lost their jobs,

But nothing seems to have changed among the other nobs.

It’s all very wishy washy stuff where appointees are considered sacred,

They are there till they are seventy five and can’t be considered faded,

Electing senators is forbidden like death with dignity,

The establishment would not like it and have no sympathy.

We might have to rewrite the Constitution in order to change,

The establishment would consider this extremely strange,

Almost at the stage where it’s too difficult to arrange,

Trudeau’s Charter is almost like the bible and can’t be changed.
