Coffins on the Highway of Heroes

Afghanistan mission should be good for a referendum soon,
This is important because we can’t behave as if we’re immune,
Counting coffins on the Highway of Heroes makes this national,
Could a conflict on the other side of the globe be irrational?



They give us lots of human-rights reasons why we are still there,
They’ve needed human rights since that Alexander the Great affair,
Plus, it seems as though our politicians consider this fair,
As each day they add still another year that we’ll stay over there.



Will this vicious little war come to an end sooner or later?
Or are we indebted to some strange little far-away dictator?
How long can this conflict go on or does anybody know?
This is a deadly war or just another television game show.
