A NEED TO GO TO WAR
By
James Bredin

We seem to have a need to go to war though I don’t know why,
Maybe it’s human nature though there’s the chance we might die,
And peace can be dull compared to the excitement of a war,
Lots to explore over there with guns and medals and esprit de corps.

And the various religious types never say that war is wrong,
So we all go off, dressed up, to the tune of some marching song,
Journalists writing pages and taking pictures as we march,
While politicians nod their heads at meetings as they scratch.

Which proves that the United Nations is absolutely no good,
They don’t seem to want to do anything even if they could,
Would anyone notice if we finally marched out of that place?
Left a useless empty seat right in their useless UN face.
