Our politicians go to Ottawa but seldom change a thing,
Only Tommy Douglas did but that was long ago, one spring,
We could change the rules with binding referendums which they forbid,
The Swiss have had them for hundreds of years but this knowledge is hid.

But somehow or other we need to get control of our affairs,
And get rid of the establishment attitude of "who cares?"
We have an out-of-control parole board letting prisoners out of jail,
Hoping to continue doing this forever and never fail.

They have statistics here and there and even climbing up the wall,
And social workers by the score at desks and more on call,
They can justify their existence in a thousand ways,
No politician would dare take a look through that official haze.
