Change is Forbidden

Why do I get the impression that Ottawa is so imperious?
No recall or referendums and why is this not serious?
No euthanasia or proportional representation,
A hundred thousand abortions a year should cause a sensation.

No set-date elections so no one really knows when, where or why,
The next election might be called from the Arctic or up in the sky,
While the parole boards are busy letting prisoners out of jail,
Or giving complete pardons or ensuring others get bail.

And the next refugee ship may be on it's way right now,
Even if we knew, no one is allowed to cause a row,
Why is our elite establishment so opposed to change?
And worse; why do Canadians not consider this strange?
