Someone in Ottawa with guts
By
James Bredin

We need someone in Ottawa with guts and power to put things right.
For Canadians -- not the world -- and not necessarily polite,
Because it looks like we'll have illegal refugees up to here,
Bold as brass with Charter Rights and a tendency to disappear.

But our pompous politicians have been reluctant to make waves,
Busy taxing and spending and traveling -- worse than Liberal days,
We need binding referendums and political recall,
We need euthanasia instead of parliamentary brawl.

Could we elect prime ministers by name at set-date elections?
Could we elect senators instead of a list of appointees with connections?
And why does it appear that the Parole Board is out of control?
Letting criminals out or jail with pardons or on parole?
